Barrels to Bikes

The character of an oak whiskey barrel stave is extraordinary. With an exterior face that has been weather-beaten and stained by rusted barrel hoops, an interior face charred to a deep black, and 3 different orientations of curves in each piece, it is no wonder it has become such a popular material for furniture and appurtenances in bar-themed areas.

Todd explores the use of whiskey barrel staves in a completely different context. The freedom, the movement and the joy of mountain biking offer interesting counterpoints to the staid, sedentary life a stave was destined for as a part of a whiskey barrel. …and the curves are great for outlining both the curves of our bodies and the lines of a bike frame.
